What does HIV/AIDS look like on a day to day basis? What are the real-life images beyond the statistics that confront us? Having worked at Shalom for almost a decade, numerous images run through my mind. I think of the young woman recently widowed and weakened with illness, not knowing how she will raise her three young children. I think of the teenaged boy with bottled up emotions wondering why life has been so unfair and why he is crippled by an illness that makes him afraid to even dream. I think of the transgender person who was brought to Shalom the other day, with hollowed eyes and emaciated body, with no desire to live anymore. They live daily in life situations where poverty and HIV join hands to cause unimaginable suffering and loss.

Shalom Delhi is a Project that cares for people and families affected by HIV/AIDS. It’s services are comprehensive providing medical, psycho-social and livelihood support through its hospital, home based care and community programs. Through its patient-centered, compassionate and competent services, Shalom is providing much needed care for some of the most marginalized and under-served groups of people in society.
